WYANDOTTE, MI — A motocyclist died in a crash after leading officers on a high-speed chase through two downriver communities early Friday, according to police.
Officers tried stopping the motorcyclist who was speeding over 100 miles per hour on Biddle Avenue in Wyandotte, WDIV reported.
The motorcyclist fled officers, speeding into oncoming traffic at times, according to police.
The chase continued into Riverview where the motorcyclist eventually crashed near railroad tracks along W Jefferson, Fox 2 Detroit reported.
The motocyclist died in the crash. Police did not release any additional details about the driver.
"Our thoughts are with the family, you know, this is a young person and this is the issue with running from the police," Wyandotte Police Chief Archie Hamilton told reporters. "It's very dangerous, you have to pull over, and I mean we have, we need stricter penalties for it, you know, to deter people like this young man because it's extremely dangerous to the public."
