Community Choice Credit Union and Zagster Expand Public Bike Sharing Program

Brownstown joins Wyandotte with bikes available for rent by the hour

Community Choice Credit Union is partnering with Zagster, the leader in providing private and public/private bike sharing services, to bring public bike sharing to Brownstown for the first time. As of Tuesday, July 7, 2015 there will be four shiny new, comfortable, sturdy bikes – with baskets! – available at Thorn Park for public use.

“Whether it’s for transportation, exercise, or just for leisure, riding a bike is a fun, healthy way to get around town and experience nature,” said Sue Trussell, assistant director of the Brownstown Downtown Development Authority. “We are thrilled to partner with Community Choice Credit Union and Zagster to provide this service.”

The Brownstown bike share program is an expansion of the successful bike share program located in Wyandotte, which launched last summer, sponsored by Community Choice Credit Union (formerly NuPath Community Credit Union). Both locations have extra docking capability to enable riders to ride and park at the other location, which is about 10 miles away.

“More and more people in the Greater Detroit area are recognizing the need to get out and live a more active lifestyle and this bike share program is the perfect viable solution,” said Kathryn White, market development executive of Community Choice Credit Union. “It’s easy on your wallet, on the environment and helps bring the community closer together. All of which are qualities that are important to Community Choice Credit Union.”

Riders can join by downloading the Zagster Mobile App, available for iPhone and Android, or online at http://zagster.com/communitychoice/. To use the Mobile App, riders simply enter the unique ID of the bike they wish to ride and an access code for the lock box is provided. Riders can use the code throughout the duration of their rental to lock and unlock the bike anywhere along their trip. Once the bike is returned to a Zagster location, the touch of a button ends the rental and releases the bike for the next rider.

“Zagster’s mission is to make it simple for anyone who wants to ride to a bike to do so,” said Timothy Ericson, co-founder and CEO of Zagster. “Thanks to Community Choice Credit Union, it’s now easy for anyone in Brownstown and Wyandotte to go out and explore all that their community has to offer.”

The Zagster bike fleet features the Breezer Uptown, an award-winning bike known for its lightweight, yet durable construction, specifically designed for easy riding. All bikes come with spacious baskets perfect for groceries, take out, or goodies from local retailers. With an attached flexible lock, riders can park their bikes wherever they want, allowing the ultimate in convenience.
