Wyandotte Animal Shelter Valentine's Open House

Saturday, February 12th, find your “Furr-ever” love at the 3rd Annual Wyandotte Animal Shelter Valentine’s Open House.

Chuck Gillenwater, Animal Control Officer for the City of Wyandotte and volunteers at the Wyandotte Animal Shelter welcome you to visit the shelter on Saturday, February 12th from 10am-3pm. We have the purr-fect cat or dog waiting for you!

We welcome the public to tour our facility and see how we care for the st...ray cats and dogs in the City of Wyandotte. The Wyandotte Animal Shelter has a core group of volunteers who assist the animal control officer in the care and adoption of the animals.

Many people have a vision of an animal shelter being a cold and scary place and we want to feature the shelter and dispel the myth it carries. In these economic times, the animal shelter is a very important asset to the community. With foreclosures and job loss, we have seen an increase in people having to give up their animals and abandonment of animals in empty homes. The shelter took in over 750 animals last year alone. Where would these animals be without the shelter? The shelter provides an important “second chance” for these animals who would otherwise be left on the streets, with no care.

We will have refreshments for all visitors and dog and cat related items to purchase, with all proceeds going directly to the care of sick or injured animals at the shelter. We do have an adoption application to adopt our animals but one can go online to wacshelter.com to preview animals available for adoption or to fill out an application to adopt an animal. Anyone who adopts a cat or dog Valentine’s weekend will receive a Valentine gift bag and one for your new furry friend.
