The incident at The Speedway, a downtown Detroit gas station at East Jefferson aVenue and I-375, occurred about 2 a.m., The Detroit News and WWJ/CBS Detroit report.

Fearing the two men were going to their car to get a gun, the festively dressed 26-year-old suspect opened fire on the pair, Detroit Police Officer Adam Madera said.

“An individual who was dressed as Santa and two other individuals got into some kind of confrontation,” Madera said. “Two of the individuals went to their vehicle; they believe that Santa felt maybe that they were going to get a weapon. He then shot these individuals.”

One of the men was shot in the chest, the other in the hand. The victims, both 29, are expected to recover, although one was in critical condition, WWJ/CBS Detroit said.

Santa was captured after two nearby off-duty police officers chased him on foot for several blocks, then pointed him out to a uniformed officer who was working the downtown club patrol.
