Retired Wyandotte Teacher David Wehner Dies at 64
During his career, David Wehner was named the National Biology Teacher of the Year.

David Wehner, a longtime teacher in Wyandotte and former chairman of the Science Department at , died Thursday, June 16. He was 64.
According to an email sent out Friday by Wyandotte Public Schools, Wehner of Charlevoix admitted himself into a hospital earlier in the week after experiencing chest pains. Doctors put stents in, but could not locate any blockage. After surgery, he began having shortness of breath. He ate dinner with his wife, Connie, and then asked her to leave because the weather was getting bad. After she left, he died a short while later.
Wehner started working for Wyandotte Public Schools in 1970 as a science teacher at . He transferred to Roosevelt High School as a science/biology/microbiology teacher in 1978. In 1987, he became the Science Department chairman until his retirement in 2005.

During his career, Wehner was named the National Biology Teacher of the Year. He also was the only teacher up until his retirement who had been asked by a student every year of his tenure to attend the annual Superintendent’s Dinner for the Top 10 percent of the graduating class.
In addition to his wife, Wehner is survived by his mother, Joyce; son, Matthew (Veronica) Wehner; daughters Stephanie (George) Papanastassiou and Jennifer Wehner; grandchildren Gabriel and Noah Wehner and Alexandros and Leonidas Papanastassiou; and sisters Lynn and Debbie Wehner.

is handling the arrangements. Visitation is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A service is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at . Burial will follow at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Huron Township.
