'Spooktastic' Family Halloween Fun Ahead in Wayne County Parks

Forest Fun Hike and Halloween Festival Oct. 17-18highlight the countdown to Oct. 31

The countdown to Halloween is in full swing and Wayne County Parks is offering a double dose of spooktastic fun, sure to delight the whole family.

“As a father and now a grandfather, I know how memorable and fun Halloween is for families,” said Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano. “I invite the public to participate in our Halloween Forest Fun Hike and Halloween Festival and create their own special memories.”

Halloween Forest Fun Hike, Friday, Oct. 17

Wayne County Parks offers an hour long, guided hike. Bring children dressed in costumes to enjoy this unique outdoor Halloween event. The “not-so-scary” funny forest dwellers have surprises in store for the night hikers. Hikes begin on the grounds of Nankin Mills in Westland. Afterward, guests will meet intriguing live creatures from around the world during an indoor presentation.

Participants must pre-register as event space is limited. Pick starting times of 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The cost is $6 per child, $2 per adult for Wayne County residents. For out of county residents, costs are $7 per child and $3 per adult. Please call (734) 261-1990 to register.

Halloween Festival, 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18

Bring the whole family to enjoy an afternoon of free games and activities at the Hines Park-Nankin Mills Picnic Area. Children dressed in costumes are welcome. This event includes hayrides, inflatables, a costume parade, games, trick-or-treating, entertainment and much more.

The Hines Park-Nankin Mills Area is located on Hines Drive, east of Ann Arbor Trail in Westland.
