State Raises Speed Limit on Fort Street: Will That Make It Safer?

The increase comes after a study by the state police and Michigan Department of Transportation.

Drivers along Fort Street can go a little faster now that the state has upped the speed limit along a stretch of Fort Street that runs through Wyandotte, according to a News-Herald report.

The speed limit has been increased in the following areas, which also affect Southgate and Lincoln Park, the report stated:

  • 45 mph from Eureka and Southfield roads, and from Outer Drive to Schaefer Highway
  • 40 mph from Southfield Road and Outer Driver

The decision to increase the speed limit came after a study done by the Michigan Department of Transportation and the state police, the report added.
