Wyandotte Police Poring Over Video Surveillance for Rape Suspect Leads

A woman was walking to the store when she was attacked from behind and assaulted. Police think the suspect may live in the area.

Wyandotte police are poring over video surveillance footage in hopes of identifying a man who allegedly beat and raped a woman as she walked to the Save-A-Lot Grocery store near Fort and Grove streets about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, WXYZ, Channel 7, reports.

Wyandotte Police Chief Daniel Grant told the Southgate News-Herald the 25-year-old woman lives near the store and was the the alley when a man walked up behind her and assaulted her.

“He tried to knock her to the ground, punched her in the face a couple times, ripped her clothes off then sexually assaulted her,” Grant said.

The victim notified police about a half hour after the assault, and was taken to Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, where a sexual assault exam was performed.

The alleged assailant is believed to be 35-40 years. He is white, and is said to have a “baby face,” a clean-cut appearance, and a toned and muscular body that Detective Richard Weise described as a swimmer’s build.

He was wearing a yellow T-shirt with black lettering and distinctive yellow, red and powder blue tennis shoes.

He fled on foot after the attack, leading police to believe he may live in the area.
