1. #OTGYpsi: YCS Grizzly Learning Camp gives students so much more than just a "summer school" experience (wemu.org) — Ypsilanti Community Schools' free Grizzly Learning Camp gives local students from preschool through 12th grade a hands-on, project-based summer option that feels more like camp than remedial school. With field trips, university partnerships, and familiar YCS teachers, kids keep up their reading, writing, and math while building confidence and relationships that carry straight into the new school year.
2. Slovakia study abroad program helps TESOL students build careers through networking (annarbortimes.com) — Several Eastern Michigan University TESOL graduates are now teaching in Ypsilanti Community Schools after gaining skills and connections through a summer study abroad program in Slovakia. Their experiences abroad directly led to multilingual and ESL teaching roles in local classrooms, strengthening language education options for Ypsilanti students and highlighting how EMU programs can open doors to careers right in the community.
3. Ann Arbor City Council narrowly approves resolution for new deer study (wemu.org) — Ann Arbor City Council has narrowly asked staff to develop options for a regional deer management plan, a move that could eventually affect communities across Washtenaw County, including the Ypsilanti area. Leaders stress they're only seeking an updated study for now, but acknowledge past controversy over deer culls and say all options, from doing nothing to lethal and non-lethal methods, remain on the table.
4. Sacramento State to Join MAC as Affiliate Member in Women's Rowing (getsomemaction.com) — Ford Lake in Ypsilanti is cementing its role as a regional rowing hub, having hosted the MAC's first women's championship and set to host again in 2027. Sacramento State will soon join Eastern Michigan and other programs in the conference, meaning more high-level collegiate racing – and visiting teams – will be coming to Ypsilanti's waterfront.
