Ypsilanti-area ICE operation draws crowd before individual's release, sheriff says (mlive.com) β Residents in Ypsilanti Township gathered outside a West Michigan Avenue gas station Wednesday morning as ICE agents briefly detained an individual who was later released after a green card was shown. Washtenaw County Sheriff Alyshia Dyer says deputies only responded to calm tensions, reiterating the office does not cooperate with immigration enforcement and directing residents to local immigrant support networks for resources and non-law-enforcement help.

University of Michigan makes strides in binary star system research (wemu.org) β Ypsilanti-area listeners are hearing about new University of Michigan research on a nearby binary star system that could be friendly to Earth-sized planets. Astronomers ruled out Jupiter-like giants in key regions of 70 Ophiuchi AB, which actually improves the odds for smaller, potentially habitable worlds and sets up more exoplanet discoveries that local residents can follow through WEMU.

Pittsfield Township and SEMCOG partner to produce promotional video (wemu.org) β Pittsfield Township, just next door to Ypsilanti, has released a new "Experience Pittsfield Township" video showcasing its parks, trails, businesses and quality of life, produced with help from SEMCOG. The piece also reminds listeners that WEMU, the public radio station serving Ypsilanti and Washtenaw County, relies on community donations to continue its non-commercial local news coverage.
