3-Year-Old Among Group Smuggled Into U.S. From Canada-Minnesota Border
Two drivers and 20 migrants were taken into custody near the international border in northern Minnesota.

CARIBOU, MN — The U.S. Border Patrol said its agents and local law enforcement stopped a human smuggling attempt involving 20 migrants and two drivers near Caribou, Minnesota on May 11.
The Kittson County Sheriff’s Office notified federal agents at the Pembina and Warroad border stations about people walking south from the international border with Canada.
Deputies then pulled over two vehicles, and Border Patrol arrived to investigate. A group of 20 had just crossed the border illegally and were now being driven into the U.S.

Together, the vehicles held 16 men, five women, and a 3-year-old child. Twenty migrants were from Mexico and the two drivers were from Guatemala, investigators said.
"This was a great example of our agents and our local law enforcement partners working together," Chief Patrol Agent Scott Garrett said in a news release.

"The communication and collaboration between our agencies was the reason we were able to catch the migrants. As a reminder, it is unlawful to enter the United States anywhere other than a designated Port of Entry."
The migrants were brought to the Pembina Border Patrol Station and transferred into Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.
