9-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Shot In Head In Southwest MN

LYON COUNTY, MN — A 9-year-old girl is dead after she was shot in the head at a home in Lyon County.

The girl was shot Monday just before 1:30 p.m. Authorities responded and she was airlifted for medical treatment.

The girl died from her injuries on Tuesday, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting was "classified as accidental in nature," the sheriff's office said. "Out of respect and privacy for the victim and her family, there will be no further updates regarding this incident."

Authorities did not reveal who fired the fatal shot and why the girl was near a loaded gun in the home.
