Memorial Set For Minnesota Trooper Who Died At 37

SAVAGE, MN — A memorial service has been set for a Minnesota State Patrol lieutenant who died last week at age 37.

Tyler McKinley Uthe, of Savage, died unexpectedly June 3, according to his obituary.

A visitation is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, followed by a 1 p.m. celebration of life at Eagle Brook Church, 4960 Florence Trail in Apple Valley.

Uthe began his career with the Minnesota State Patrol in 2013 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2019, according to his obituary.

The Minneapolis Police Department said its “thoughts are with Lt. Uthe’s family, friends and the Minnesota State Patrol during this difficult time.”

The Austin Police Department said in a Facebook post that Uthe “passed yesterday with the silent battle within.”

“These losses are tragic and heartbreaking to everyone involved,” Austin police wrote. “Not just Police, but for every human being.”

The department urged people to check on loved ones who may be withdrawing, drinking more, acting angry or otherwise seeming “off.”

“Pull them aside,” Austin police wrote. “Let them know they are loved and needed on this earth.”

Uthe is survived by his wife, Ashley, and children Zachary Tyler and Taylor Marie, according to his obituary.
