Winona Lighting Manufacturer To Close, Lay Off 86 Workers This Fall

WINONA, MN — A Winona lighting manufacturer is set to permanently close its facility and lay off approximately 86 employees this fall, according to a federal notice filed with the state.

Acuity Brands Lighting submitted a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice for its facility at 3760 West Fourth St. in Winona, notifying Minnesota's State Rapid Response Team of the closure. Workforce reductions are expected on or about Nov. 30, 2026, or within the 30-day period following that date.

The WARN Act requires employers with 100 or more full-time workers to give at least 60 days' advance notice before mass layoffs or plant closings.

Some of the affected employees are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 953, and have bumping rights under the collective bargaining agreement between Acuity and the union.

Positions affected include assembly cell operators, CNC programmers, fabrication operators, manufacturing engineers, maintenance technicians, material handlers, paint operators and setup operators, quality engineers, production schedulers, and several managerial and coordination roles.

Acuity Brands is a publicly traded Atlanta-based company that manufactures commercial and industrial lighting solutions and controls.
