Twin Cities Endure Hottest Day In Over 4 Years Amid Triple-Digit Temperatures

MINNEAPOLIS — The Twin Cities cracked 100 degrees Monday for the first time in over four years, according to the National Weather Service.

The last time the temperature was in the triple digits at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was June 20, 2022, the weather service reported Monday afternoon.

Monday's high temperature follows a humid early morning, when the airport's dew point temperature was 81 degrees — just one degree shy of the all-time record of 82 degrees, according to the service.

Sunday was also a scorcher — the hottest day of the year before Monday — with the high at the airport topping out at 99 degrees.

However, some relief is on the way, with a heat advisory for the metro expiring at 8 p.m. Monday, although highs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are still forecast for the low 90s.

"After hot and humid conditions this weekend into today, we'll take a step back in both temperatures and humidity for Tuesday and Wednesday," the weather service's Twin Cities office posted Monday afternoon on social media.

"It continues to look promising to see some beneficial rains late in the day Thursday into Friday."

Another potential development for later in the week is significantly lower temperatures in the forecast, with highs Friday, Saturday and Sunday predicted to top off in the low- to mid-80s.
