ST. CLOUD, MN — A man threatened to shoot police before he was eventually taken into custody after an hours-long standoff, according to authorities.

The incident began about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force attempted to serve a search warrant for a narcotics investigation at an apartment in the 2700 block of 16th Street South, police said. Shawn Lawrence Jacobs, 37, threatened to shoot the officers through the closed apartment door and kill himself, before firing a gunshot through the wall of the apartment and into the hallway, according to police.

No one was hit, and officers started evacuating the apartment complex and closed several roads, police said. A SWAT team was activated and, after several hours of phone negotiations, Jacobs surrendered around 4 p.m. and was taken to Stearns County Jail to be held on charges related to the incident, according to police.
