Cloquet Hotel Shooting: Ramsey Man Killed Worker, Customer, And Self

CLOQUET, MN — A 32-year-old Ramsey man shot and killed two people at a Cloquet hotel before turning the gun on himself, according to police.

On Monday at about 6:30 p.m., an employee of the Super 8 hotel in Cloquet called 911 to report that another hotel worker had been attacked. Police responded and found a 22-year-old woman with a gunshot wound. She was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, where she died.

Police at the scene next found a 35-year-old man's body with a gunshot wound in a car in the hotel parking lot.

After issuing a shelter-in-place alert to the community, officers found a 32-year-old man outside on hotel property dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a firearm next to him. Police used surveillance video to determine that he was the shooter.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released. Police said there is no information yet on a motive or if the shooter knew the victims.

Friends and family members identified Shelby Marie Trettel as the front desk worker who was shot and killed, according to the Star Tribune.
