Human Remains Found In Tote Near Mille Lacs Lake, 1 Arrested: Sheriff
A 21-year-old man was arrested in less than two hours after maintenance crews found the tote, the sheriff said.
KATHIO TOWNSHIP, MN — State and county authorities are investigating after human remains were found in a tote near Mille Lacs Lake on Tuesday.
The tote was discovered in a ditch by a county highway maintenance crew working along Twilight Road on the southwest shore of the lake.
"They were not able to move it, they ended up looking inside the tote and found human remains," said Mille Lacs County Sheriff Kyle Burton in a video update. "We ended up having a person of interest in custody in less than two hours," he added. "A lot of things happened really fast."

The person of interest — a 21-year-old man — is being held in custody on four outstanding arrest warrants. Formal charges related to the homicide investigation have not been filed, but Burton expects them this week.
The identity of the body found is being withheld while the medical examiner investigates. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in this case.
