K-9 Killed In Fire That Destroyed Minnesota Family's Home
The K-9's handler wasn't home at the time of the fire, nor were his wife or children. Two other dogs also perished.

NESSEL TOWNSHIP, MN — The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of a K-9 who was killed in a fire that also destroyed the home of one of the agency’s deputies.
Kyro, the newest member of the sheriff’s K-9 Division, died Monday, just a few days shy of his second birthday, when the Nessel Township house where he lived with his handler, K-9 Deputy Nate Fisher, went up in flames, according to authorities. Fisher, his wife Heather Fisher, and their children weren’t home at the time of the fire, which killed two other dogs as well, authorities said.
“We are forever grateful for K9 Deputy Kyro’s service and he will not be forgotten,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

In addition to losing Kyro and their other dogs, the family’s possessions were ruined, according to a GoFundMe started by the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office Foundation, which said the house was a total loss.
“Heather and Nate work tirelessly for their community, family and friends,” foundation Treasurer Laurie Blank wrote on the GoFundMe, which was created to help pay for the Fisher’s interim living expenses and replace their belongings and income. “They are always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it.”

As of Wednesday evening, the fundraiser had received more than $135,000 in donations.
“We are overwhelmed in an amazing way with the amount of love, messages, support, monetary funds, gift cards … just everything,” Heather Fisher wrote in an update on the GoFundMe. “I don’t know what we have done to deserve all of your love and support, but thank you really just isn’t enough to express our gratitude.”
