Klobuchar: Clarance Thomas Must Recuse Himself Over Wife's Texts
Records show Virginia Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarance Thomas, urged the Trump White House to overturn the 2020 election.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Amy Klobuchar is calling on Justice Clarance Thomas to recuse himself from deciding on any cases stemming from the Jan. 6, 2021 violence at the United States Capitol.
Klobuchar's call came after reports that Clarance's wife — Virginia — sent text messages to former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows urging him to help overturn the 2020 election results, according to records obtained by the Washington Post.
"The facts are clear here. This is unbelievable," Klobuchar — a Senate Judiciary Committee member — said on "This Week" Sunday. "You have the wife of a sitting Supreme Court justice advocating for an insurrection. Advocating for overturning a legal election to the sitting president's chief of staff."

"She also knows this election, these cases are going to come before her husband," Klobuchar continued. "This is a textbook case for removing him. Recusing him from these decisions."
If Thomas refuses to recuse himself, Klobuchar says "the entire integrity of the court is on the line here" and hopes Chief Justice John Roberts will speak out.

Following the Nov. 3 election, President Donald Trump, top aides, and supporters spread baseless conspiracy theories about voter fraud and falsely claimed that Trump won a second term in office.
