ROSEAU COUNTY, MN — A massive train derailment forced evacuations over the weekend in far northern Minnesota along the Canadian border, according to authorities.

Hazmat teams responded Saturday to the scene, along with other emergency personnel and Canadian National officials, according to an update mid-day Sunday from local authorities posted on the Roseau County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. The update noted there were “no environmental concerns at this time.”

A precautionary evacuation had been lifted as of noon Sunday, although part of Highway 313 remained in soft closure and heavy equipment was operating in the area, the update said, adding people should stay away from the scene.
