Minnesota is No. 1 in road safety, according to the new study.

MINNESOTA — The Land of 10,000 Lakes, "where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average," is one of the safest places to live, according to a new report.

Only Vermont (No. 1) and Maine (No. 2) are safer, says WalletHub.

"In order to determine the safest states in America, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 48 key safety indicators grouped into five different categories," the study notes. "Our data set ranges from assaults per capita to unemployment rate to total loss amounts from climate disasters per capita."
