MN Teacher Knocked Out 8-Year-Old's Tooth With Hockey Stick: Report

The state Department of Education found the student was subjected to maltreatment. Police are also investigating the case, FOX 9 reported.

PRINCETON, MN — A Princeton teacher has resigned and is being investigated by the police after she was captured on video throwing a hockey stick at an 8-year-old, causing him to lose a tooth, according to FOX 9.

The recording of the March 28 incident, published by FOX 9, shows the Princeton Primary School teacher throwing the stick at a student’s face, with the top of the stick hitting the child in or near the mouth.

The boy’s parents told FOX 9 they are “in shock” and are speaking out due to disappointment over the district’s poor communication regarding the matter.

A staff email from the school’s principal wished the teacher “the absolute best” in her retirement and a school district Facebook post about the retirement declared “you will be missed,” according to images published by FOX 9. Superintendent Ben Barton later apologized to FOX 9 for the post and said it was taken down.

“Student safety is the top priority of the Princeton Public School District,” the district said in a statement on its website, adding that the teacher who was the subject of the allegations was put on administrative leave during a district investigation and through the rest of the school year.
