ST. PAUL, MN — The (unofficial) results are in. Last week, the political group FairVote Minnesota launched a state flag poll using ranked-choice voting.

More than 12,000 people voted on the six finalists.

"While the [State Emblems Redesign Commission] is responsible for selecting the final design, it is required to solicit public feedback to inform its work," Fairvote Minnesota said.

Before it selects a finalist, which must be done by the end of the month, the State Emblems Redesign Commission is now soliciting comments from the public on the six finalists for the new Minnesota state flag and five finalists for the next state seal.

The designs may be modified, including changes to shapes and colors, officials noted.

More than 2,600 designs were origially submitted for the new Minnesota state flag and seal. The commission has until Jan. 1, 2024, to choose and formally adopt a new flag and seal.

Last spring, the Democratically-controlled legislature passed a bill to create a commission tasked with choosing a new design for the official state flag and seal.

The Minnesota Historical Society is providing administrative support to the commission.
