ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN — A 5-year-old girl was wearing her princess costume when she died in an icy crash on Halloween in northern Minnesota.

"On the day of Isela’s untimely passing, she was dressed as a princess for Halloween," the girl's mother, Evian Redd, wrote on Facebook. "But to me, she was a princess every day, and I reminded her that we didn't need a holiday for her to be mommy's princess."

The single-car crash happened after snow fell in the region.

"I was driving back from Isela's doctor's appointment in Duluth, Minnesota when I came across snow and icy conditions," Redd said on a GoFundMe page. "The car lost control, skidded off the road, and flipped multiple times before coming to a stop. Tragically, Isela lost her life instantly."

On Oct. 31 just before 4 p.m., the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a report of an iPhone crash alert in the area of Vermilion Trail and Harris Bay Road.

A good Samaritan called in a short time later and reported that a child was stuck under the vehicle, which had rolled and was resting on its side.

Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Redd and her 2-year-old daughter — who was also in the car — were transported to Essentia Health Northern Pines Hospital in Aurora with minor injuries.
