MN House Democrat Charged With Drunk Driving

ST. CLOUD, MN — A member of the Minnesota House was charged Monday with two counts of misdemeanor drinking-driving.

Rep. Dan Wolgamott — a third-term Democrat from St. Cloud — was cited in Kanabec County following his July traffic stop and arrest.

On Friday, July 7, Wolgamott was recorded drinking something in a liquor store parking lot, KARE 11 reported.

His 2020 Lincoln-Continental was then pulled over by a Minnesota State Patrol trooper at 6:09 p.m.

The vehicle had expired rear tabs, no front license plate, and was "weaving within its lane," authorities said. The trooper also "observed signs of alcohol impairment."

His blood-alcohol level was recorded at .09, above the legal limit of .08.

Wolgamott was jailed and then released that night, according to Minnesota Public Radio.

Last week, he released the following statement about the incident:

On Friday, July 7, while attending a weekend wedding celebration outside of Mora, Minnesota, I was stopped by law enforcement in Kanabec County under suspicion for driving while impaired. The Kanabec County Attorney is awaiting the results of a test before deciding on further action.

I wholeheartedly apologize to my family, my friends, my colleagues, and my constituents, and thank the law enforcement officers who made sure I got home safe.

I take full responsibility for my actions, and I ask for your forgiveness. I am committed to doing the work I need to do in my life to ensure nothing like this ever happens again, and that my actions live up to the trust that you have placed in me.
