MN Lawmaker's Staffer Attacked At Gunpoint In D.C.

U.S. Rep. Brad Finstad said his staffer was attacked Wednesday after the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity.

WASHINGTON, DC — A staffer for U.S. Rep. Brad Finstad was attacked at gunpoint this week just blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the Minnesota congressman confirmed Friday.

According to Finstad, a Republican who represents Minnesota's 1st Congressional District, the attack happened outside the staffer's Washington, D.C. home following Wednesday's Congressional Baseball Game for Charity.

According to a Metropolitan Police Department report, the staffer male staffer was walking home when he was approached by two men wearing black hoodies. Police said the men pushed the staffer to the ground before pointing a gun at him.

Finstad said the staffer suffered minor injuries.

“Thankfully, he will be able to make a full recovery," Finstad said in a statement posted to his website. "I thank the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for their quick response and their attention to this incident."

Authorities do not have any suspects in custody, police said.

The incident happened just four months after Minnesota Congresswoman Angie Craig, a Democrat, was attacked in the elevator of her District of Columbia apartment building, according to her office.

According to Craig's chief of staff, Kendrick Hamlin, 26, followed Craig into the elevator, where he "began to randomly do push-ups" before punching Craig in the chin with a closed fist and grabbing her neck.

Craig then threw her hot coffee in Hamlin's face and he fled, according to police. Hamlin was arrested later that day and pleaded guilty in the attack earlier this month.

Police said the attack on Craig was not politically motivated.
