Search Continues For Teen Who Fell Off Cliff Into St. Croix River

Search efforts for the 18-year-old were suspended Tuesday night but will resume Wednesday, authorities said.

CHISAGO COUNTY, MN — Emergency crews continue to search for an 18-year-old who fell off a cliff into the St. Croix River Tuesday evening.

Chisago County authorities were alerted of the incident at about 6:10 p.m.

A Wisconsin man visiting the Interstate State Park in Taylors Falls was near a rock ledge overlooking the St. Croix River when he lost his footing and fell into the waters, according to investigators.

An extensive rescue effort was launched, but search efforts were unsuccessful and paused at nightfall, authorities said.

The search is set to resume on Wednesday morning.

"We ask that the general public not search on or near the water at this time," Sheriff Derek Anklan said in a statement.

"The flow rate of the river, along with debris typically seen in the spring, has made for dangerous search conditions."

Together, Minnesota and Wisconsin established the Interstate State Park in 1900.
