Teen Drowns At Nature Preserve Outside St. Cloud

STEARNS COUNTY, MN — A teen boy drowned after jumping from a cliff into a quarry located just outside St. Cloud.

On Tuesday at about 4:20 p.m., county authorities received a 911 call about a possible drowning at the Quarry Park and Nature Preserve in Waite Park.

Witnesses told arriving emergency personnel that a 17-year-old male had jumped off a ten-foot-high cliff into the water and never resurfaced.

Witnesses attempted to dive into the water but could not locate him, authorities were told.

The Stearns/Benton Dive Team and the Waite Park and Saint Cloud Fire Departments deployed boats and started searching the quarry.

At about 8:45 p.m., the victim's body was located in 31 feet of water, authorities said.
