SHERBURNE COUNTY, MN — More than 600 volunteers, numerous law enforcement agencies, and a private drone operator are to thank for finding a 6-year-old Minnesota boy and his dog who were missing for hours late Tuesday and early Wednesday near their home in Palmer Township.

At 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, Ethan Haus got off the school bus with his siblings near Highway 25 and County Road 16 and ran off to play with the family dog. Both he and the dog went missing at that point.

A drone using heat-seeking technology located Ethan and his dog just before 2 a.m. Wednesday in a cornfield a little more than a mile from his home, according to a news release.

Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott credits the massive community effort that brought hundreds of volunteers to the area to help search for Ethan. "This truly was the epitome of a community caring for its own," Brott said in a statement.

"To see the outpouring of support in such a short time period to come out and help find this boy and his dog is heartwarming."

Area law enforcement agencies provided multiple canines to assist in the search as well as drones and a helicopter from the Minnesota State Patrol.
