Accomplished Flautist Attends Brightmont Academy, Private School with Flexible Scheduling, To Advance Music Career

Private school specializing in one-to-one instruction enables a talented student to advance in music and graduate early

Brightmont Academy, an accredited private school using a one-to-one instruction model exclusively for students in grades 6-12, is known for flexibility. By scheduling one teacher to work with only one student in each class, Brightmont staff are able to customize instructional methods, curriculum, pacing, and most importantly for Faith, a highly-accomplished flautist, even the school schedule is customized. This allows her to earn high school credits more quickly than a traditional school would allow.

Faith intends to pursue a career in music with her flute, and already has many achievements in that direction. In addition to an exhausting daily practice regimen, Faith must prepare for multiple performances, auditions for elite ensemble and orchestral positions such as the National Youth Orchestra, and recordings necessary for her college pre-audition applications. Brightmont Academy is able to reduce her daily class attendance requirement so that she has more time to build her flute repertoire.

Faith set a goal to graduate from high school a year early so that she could access even more advanced instruction in college. Brightmont teaches to mastery, enabling students to advance more quickly when they understand the content being taught and can demonstrate mastery, typically by scoring 80% or higher on tests and assignments. Through her hard work and persistent effort, Faith has soared through the high school curriculum and is on track to reach her goal of earning her diploma in the spring of 2017.

“I don’t know what I’d do without Brightmont,” says Faith. “Another type of schooling wouldn’t allow me to achieve everything I’m trying to do with flute.”

Not all students who attend this private school intend to earn a diploma from Brightmont Academy. Some students take individual courses to earn credit toward a diploma issued by their local high school, or to earn additional advanced courses for an even stronger college application. Others enroll for a wide range of support services, including tutoring for grades 3-12, test prep, and career planning advising, all customized to the individual student.
