FARMINGTON, MN — The Farmington Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 13-year-old bicyclist Tuesday night.
At approximately 9:44 p.m. on July 14, officers responded to a crash involving a motor vehicle and a bicyclist at the intersection of Minnesota Highway 50 and Dushane Parkway.
Police said two juvenile boys were crossing Highway 50 when a vehicle traveling westbound struck one of the bicyclists. The vehicle fled the scene without stopping.
Bystanders, Farmington police officers, firefighters and paramedics rendered aid to the injured boy, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.
The victim was a 13-year-old boy from Apple Valley. Police are not releasing his identity out of respect for his family and pending notifications.
The Minnesota State Patrol responded to conduct the crash investigation and is assisting Farmington police.
Investigators are seeking the public's help identifying the vehicle, which they believe is a small black SUV with front-end or passenger-side damage and a missing passenger-side mirror.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has dash camera or surveillance video that may have captured the vehicle before or after the collision, is asked to call the Farmington Police Department at 651-280-6700.
"The Farmington Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the victim's family, friends and all those affected by this tragic incident," police said in a statement.
The investigation remains active, and police said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
