Bill Would Rename Bridge After Fallen Solider From Rosemount

A new bill in the Minnesota House and Senate would honor a fallen solider from Rosemount.

A new bill introduced by Minnesota DFL Sen. Greg Clausen would honor a fallen solider from Rosemount. Highway 46, known as Brandel Drive within the city of Coates, which goes over U.S. Highway 52, would be renamed as "Corporal Benjamin S. Kopp Bridge," if the bill were to be signed into law.

A House version of the bill was co-authored by Rep. Anna Wills.

Kopp, a member of the 75th Army Ranger Regiment, saved six of his fellow soldiers when his unit came under attack by in Afghanistan in 2009.

Although he died, Kopp saved four more lives back in the United States through his gift of organ donation.

Kopp graduated from Rosemount High School in 2006 and was a member of the football team for four years, the Rosemount Town Pages reported. Kopp's mother plans to release a biography of his life later this year.
