Man Drowned Trying To Swim Across Dakota County River: Witness
The fast-moving current swept him downstream, the witness told officers.

DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — Authorities recovered a body overnight in a river near Hastings. Just before 9 p.m., deputies were called to the Vermillion River access point at the Etter Bridge in Ravenna Township on a possible drowning.
A witness told responding officers a man was attempting to swim across the river, but the fast-moving current swept him downstream.
The victim began to struggle, eventually went underwater and the witness lost sight of him.

Crews searched for the man for several hours. His body was found and recovered at about 2 a.m. Tuesday using sonar.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Maung Ngae, 30, of Saint Paul.

The Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Parks, Lakes, and Trails Division, and Dive Team were assisted by the Hastings Fire Department, the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
