District 196 Lays Off Tenured Teachers

The Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school district board approved lay offs for 14 tenured teachers at its Monday meeting and gave partial layoffs to 11 other teachers, according to a story from thisweeklive.com.

These layoffs are in addition to the 93 issued to untenured teachers in March, the story says. District Director of Human Resources Tom Pederstuen said in the story that the restructured middle school program, which will begin in the fall, was the largest reason for the tenured teacher layoffs.

That new schedule at the middle school level from eight to six, in an effort to focus on improving student achievement in core academic subjects.
