Four RHS Students Commit to Collegiate Athletic Scholarships

The students signed their letters of intent at a public ceremony on Wednesday morning.

The Athletic Department celebrated National Signing Day on Wednesday morning by hosting a public event at which four RHS students who have been offered division one or division two collegiate athletic scholarships signed their national letters of intent.

“It’s a culminating event for students putting in a lot of time and effort to excel at a particular sport,” said Michael Manning, athletic director and assistant principal at RHS.

The student athletes include Matt Weller, who will play lacrosse at St. Leo University, Matt Nelson, who will play basketball at Moorhead State University, Adam Jackson, who will be wrestling at the United States Air Force Academy and Mackenzie Gogolin, who will play golf at Minot State University.

“I feel honored,” said Jackson. “It means a lot. It shows that my hard work has paid off.”

The ceremony took place at 7 a.m. in the RHS new student center. The students and their parents and coaches were in attendance.

“We really couldn’t be any prouder than we are,” said Nikki Jackson, mother of Adam Jackson, as the ceremony drew to a close.

National Signing Day is held on the first day of a five day signing period during which high school student athletes must sign their NCAA scholarship documents and commit to their school of choice.
