Two Rosemount Wrestlers Reach Semifinals

Four of five Rosemount wrestlers won their first matches in the state wrestling tournament at the Xcel Energy Center Friday morning, and two of the four won again in the quarterfinals later in the day.

But only Adam Jackson has made it all the way to the finals. He'll wrestle at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for a state championship at 152 pounds.

Here's how Rosemount's five state qualifiers fared, match by match:

DAN ROSA (113): Got pinned by Tommy Thorn (41-1) of St. Michael-Albertville in the first round; beat Alex Coleman of Shakopee 4-3 in wrestlebacks; lost to Wayzata's Nick O'Brien in the consolation quarterfinals. (Did not place.)

STEVE LEVINE (126): Won by technical fall 17-1 over Devin Wolf of Irondale in the first round; decisioned Blake Carlisle of Prior Lake 7-0 in the quarterfinals; lost to Mitch Bengtson of St. Cloud Apollo by fall at 5:46 in the semifinals; lost to Apple Valley's Shamar Williams 6-4 in the consolation semifinals. (Will wrestle for fifth place later Saturday.)

ADAM JACKSON (152): Pulled out a close 5-3 victory over Cody Skog of Cambridge-Isanti; edged Ben Cousins of Bloomington Kennedy 3-1 in the quarterfinals; defeated Nam Nguyen of St. Cloud Apollo 5-2 in the semifinals. (Will wrestle Tartan's T.J. O'Hara in the championship Saturday night.)

SAM MOELLER (170): Defeated Lakeville North freshman Tristyn Hanson 10-3; was pinned by Tommy Longendyke of White Bear Lake in the quarterfinals; lost to LaQuan Wallace of Champlin Park 9-3 in wrestlebacks. (Did not place.)

STEFAN SAUER (285): Knocked off Bemidji junior Alex Johnson 5-2 in the first round; got pinned by Bryce DeBoer of Albert Lea in the quarterfinals; pinned Jason Telin of Tartan in the first round of wrestlebacks; lost to Tanner Lowe of Coon Rapids in the consolation quarterfinals. (Did not place.)
