Gear Up For National Novel Writing Month

Apple Valley writers already are planning to meet up for write-ins this month.

For the past 10 or so years, National Novel Writing Month has grown exponentially thanks in part to the Internet and thanks in part to folks who like to punish themselves.

Each November, scores of people task themselves with writing a novel of at least 50,000 words to be completed by midnight Nov. 30. There's also a younger-than-18 challenge, with individual goals set for those participants.

In 2010, 200,000 adults participated through NaNoWriMo's website where you can track your daily progress, with another 42,000 young writers participating through the Young Writers Program.
