Immigration Officials Make Arrests In Apple Valley

Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made a total of nine arrests in Apple Valley and Burnsville Tuesday.

Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) made six arrests at a Burnsville apartment complex and three additional arrests in Apple Valley Tuesday.

"Every day, as part of routine targeted enforcement operations, ICE officers arrest criminal aliens and other individuals who are in violation of our nation's immigration laws," ICE spokesman Shawn Neudauer told the Star Tribune.

The Department of Homeland Security reportedly called Independent School District (IDS) 196 (Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan) to tell them that the arrests were routine and not a part of a new, larger crackdown.

The arrests come at a time when the Trump administration's recent executive actions on immigration has students and teachers across the Twin Cities metro feeling nervous.

The DHS official told IDS 196 that there were no immigration checkpoints used in the arrests, and ICE agents won't come into schools.
