APPLE VALLEY, MN — A man was arrested after keeping a woman from leaving a home in Apple Valley by threatening her with a knife, according to police. On Feb. 9, police responded to a residence on Whitney Drive for a report that a woman was hiding inside the home and her estranged boyfriend was there with a kitchen knife.

Police set up a perimeter around the house to ensure the suspect could not escape. Officers then entered and arrested the man, police said.

There was a domestic assault protection order in place prohibiting the man from being in the home, police said.

The incident happened after the man showed up at the house unannounced the previous night, according to authorities. He eventually fell asleep in the house and woke up "in an aggressive state," police said.

He grabbed a kitchen knife and chased the woman around the house, swinging the knife at her, according to investigators. The woman tried to escape but worried she was going to be killed, police said.

The man was taken to jail for seven criminal charges including domestic assault, assault with a deadly weapon, terroristic threats, kidnapping, and felony drug possession, according to authorities.

While on the way to jail, the man asked who called the police on him. He then said, "never mind, I will find out when I’m out of jail tomorrow," police allege.
