A woman, her ex-boyfriend, and her son were involved in a shootout in Apple Valley Sunday evening, police said.

APPLE VALLEY, MN — Police have identified the woman who was killed in an Apple Valley shootout on Sunday evening.

Michelle McGill, 49, of Apple Valley was shot and killed near her home on Oriole Drive. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled that her death was a homicide.

McGill's son and ex-boyfriend were also injured in the shooting, authorities said.

Apple Valley police were dispatched to a weapons call in the 900 block of Oriole Drive just before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Multiple people were shooting at each other, police were told.

At the scene, officers found two shooting victims outside a home. Police said they found a McGill dead with a gun in her hand. McGill's 25-year-old son, found nearby, was hospitalized with gunshot wounds and was later released, police said.

The 25-year-old admitted to taking part in the shootout, according to authorities, and was taken into custody.

Police said a 39-year-old man — who was later identified as the woman's ex-boyfriend — fled the scene in a car and drove to Ridges Hospital in Burnsville. Officers found a weapon in the vehicle, police said.
