Furnaces and other heating system elements should be properly maintained in working order and functional condition. The Minnesota State Building Code calls for interior spaces intended for human occupancy to be provided with heating systems capable of maintaining a minimum indoor air temperature of 68° F at a point 3 feet above the floor. CenterPoint Energy recommends regularly scheduled maintenance by a qualified mechanical contractor of your furnace to ensure a long life as well as safe & efficient operation of the appliance. If you have not had your furnace inspected or serviced recently you might consider scheduling a preventative maintenance service with a professional to help prevent a failure during winter’s cold temperatures.
Now is also a good time to remember that residential dwellings must have properly functioning smoke alarms in each sleeping room and carbon monoxide alarms within 10 feet of all sleeping rooms.
