Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan District Alters School Calendar

District 196 officials say the changes will provide time for student-teacher connections at the start of the school year.

ROSEMOUNT, MN — The District 196 School Board has approved several changes to the 2020-21 academic calendar. Officials for Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan schools say the changes will provide time for student-teacher connections at the start of the school year and maximizes instructional time for students by moving professional development to Wednesdays.

On Wednesdays, all students will be using distance learning.

These changes will remain in effect throughout the entire school year:

  • Sept. 2-3 – Dates for elementary assessments
  • Sept. 8-11 – Week for orientation and connections between teachers, students and families pre-K through 12
  • Sept. 14 – First day of in-person instruction
  • June 8 – New last day of school for elementary students
  • June 11 — The last day of school for secondary students

Students in District 196 will start the school year using a hybrid learning model, with a combination of learning at school and from home.

The Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District made the announcement after Gov. Tim Walz unveiled statewide parameters for schools to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic.
