Rosemount High Graduate Killed in Afghanistan During Insurgent Attack

Andrew C. Wilfahrt was a 1997 graduate of Rosemount High School.

A Rosemount soldier was killed in Afghanistan Sunday by insurgents who attacked his military police unit.

The Department of Defense said on Monday Spc. Andrew C. Wilfahrt, 31, died on Feb. 27 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered during an improvised explosive device attack on his patrol.

He was patrolling on foot with his unit on Sunday when the improvised weapon exploded, said Lt. Col. Matt Garner, public affairs officer for the 8th Theater Sustainment Command. Wilfahrt died from his injuries and another member of his patrol was injured. The identity and condition of that soldier has not been released.

Wilfahrt was assigned to the 504th Military Police Battalion, 8th Military Police Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Wilfahrt enlisted in the Army in Jan. 2009 and had been assigned to the 728th Military Police Battalion since July 2009.  He deployed to Afghanistan in July 2010.

Wilfahrt, who was not married, is survived by his parents, a brother and a sister.
