Rosemount's Warweg Scores with 7.5 Seconds Left, Irish Lose in Overtime

The Irish struggled to hold off dynamic duo Snodgrass & Kukowski.

The Rosemount Irish scored two goals in the final 1:21 of the game but ended up losing in overtime to the Eastview Lightning in the fifth-place game at the Louis Schmitz Hockey Classic on Thursday evening.

From the moment the puck dropped the pace of play was furious from two of the tournament's most skilled teams.

Rosemount came out looking to prove they belonged in the winner's bracket after an overtime loss to Hastings while Eastview hoped to shake off a 1-5 drubbing from first round opponent Park Cottage Grove.

Rosemount's highly-touted powerplay unit got the Irish on the board first with a goal from senior Sarah Tollefson with six minutes to play in the first period.

The Lightning evened the score when playmaker Courtney Kukowski assisted on an Emily Snodgrass goal with two minutes remaining in the period. Kukowski assisted on three Snodgrass goals in the Lightning's 5-3 second round win over Apple Valley.

Misfortune struck with 13:50 to go in the second period when Eastview goaltender Delaney McKay mishandled a routine save and scooped the puck into her own net. Rosemount's Kendra Goodrich was credited with the goal.

Eastview's dynamic duo struck again five minutes later. Kukowski and Snodgrass executed a perfect two-on-one that resulted in Kukowski's second goal of the tournament and a 2-2 score heading into the second intermission.

Just two minutes into the third period Eastview captain Sophie DesLauriers scored an unassisted goal to give the Lightning its first lead of the game.

Snodgrass and Kukowski simply did not feel the 3-2 advantage was sufficient. They hooked up for the third time in the game with 10:15 remaining to give Snodgrass her second goal of the game and the Lightning a 4-2 advantage.

Rosemount's Goodrich scored her second goal of the game with 1:21 left to cut the Eastview lead to 4-3.

Then the unthinkable happened.

In a scramble in front of the Eastview net, Rosemount senior Alison Warweg scored with :07.5 seconds on the clock to tie the game at four goals apiece.

Despite momentum and a ferocious Rosemount attack in overtime, it was Eastview that would prevail when junior Amanda Parranto scored the game-winner with 2:27 left.
