Six Dakota County Technical College Business Students Headed To National Leadership Conference
The students qualified at a state leadership conference last week.

Six student delegates from Dakota County Technical College have won the chance to participate in the Business Professionals Of America National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. on May 4-8.
The students are members of the new DCTC branch of the BPA, which is a Career Technical Student Organization for students pursuing careers in accounting, business management, office administration, information technology and other related fields.
The six participated in a competition at last week's 2011 Spring Leadership Conference at Alexandria Technical & Community College in Alexandria, Minn. They won 23 first through fourth-place awards across 20 events.
"I’m absolutely thrilled,” said club advisor Stelter said. “We just started the BPA Club at DCTC and I’m as proud as I can be of our students and their performance at the SLC Conference in Alexandria."
The DCTC BPA Club Student Delegate Contestants Are:

* Matt Looyen, Accounting Major, Farmington, Minn.
* Adam Larson, Accounting Major, Hastings, Minn.
* Mike Lebakken, Accounting Major, Prescott, Wis.
Lynn Todd was a member of the BPA chapter at Minnesota State College Southeast Technical College in Red Wing, Minn. and she attended a national leadership conference in 2006. She said that being a member of the BPA helped prepare her for a successful career after graduation. "You learn a lot about the your industry in the club, both from your fellow students and from your advisors and mentors. It gives you a great heads-up on the competition in a very competitive field."
