Two RHS Seniors Up for AAA Award

Laura Dennis, Charlie Broback have built impressive resumes during high school careers.

A pair of Rosemount High School seniors were nominated earlier this month for the state AAA award, sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League to recognize students who excel in academics, fine arts and athletics.

Laura Dennis and Charlie Broback were the school's nominees.

Dennis, the daughter of Luann Dennis, has a 3.99 GPA while taking numerous AP courses and college in the school classes. She has been in band for four years and has participated in the solo/ensemble contests.

She has been a three year letterwinner in cross country, a state meet participant as a sophomore and junior and was named team captain her senior year. Dennis is also a two-year letterwinner and team captain in basketball. She's also in track and field, where she is a three-year letterwinner, a two-year all-conference pick and a state meet participant and all-state selection as a sophomore.

Broback, the son of Henry and Mary Broback, has a 3.719 GPA while taking numerous AP courses and College in the School classes. He has been involved in band for four years and has also competed in the solo/ensemble contests.

Broback is a two-year letterwinner in football and was a member of the state tournament runner-up team his junior year. He is a three-year letterwinner in basketball and was named team captain his senior year. In addition he competed in track and field as a freshman and sophomore. and was a state tournament participant.

Each high school nominates one male senior and one female senior for the award each year. A student must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.75, have participated in athletics and fine arts activities. They're also nominated by a staff member.

Four recipients—a boy and girl from both Class A and Class AA schools—will be announced in March. The winners receive a $1,000 scholarship renewable for four years.
