Woman Killed, Son Injured In Apple Valley Shootout
The shooting happened on the 900 block of Oriole Drive in Apple Valley Sunday evening, police said.

APPLE VALLEY, MN — A 49-year-old woman was killed and her son was injured in a shootout in Apple Valley Sunday evening. The son and one other person were taken into custody.
Apple Valley police were dispatched to a weapons call in the 900 block of Oriole Drive just before 6:30 p.m. Multiple people were shooting at each other, police were told.
At the scene, officers found two shooting victims outside a home. Police found a woman lying dead with a gun in her hand. The woman's 25-year-old son, found nearby, was hospitalized with gunshot wounds and was later released, police said.

The 25-year-old admitted to taking part in the shootout, according to authorities, and was taken into custody.
Police said a 39-year-old man — who was later identified as the woman's ex-boyfriend — fled the scene in a car and drove to Ridges Hospital in Burnsville. Officers found a weapon in the vehicle, police said.

The 39-year-old remains there and is in serious condition, police said.
"There is no indication that others were involved in the incident," the police department said. "The Apple Valley Police Department is continuing to investigate with the assistance of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
