Blaze Softball Scores Four Late Runs to Top Kennedy

Lehnen, Anderson, Threlkeld and Johnson all drive in runs in the ninth inning to keep the Blaze 7-0

Burnsville's softball team scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to escape upset-minded host Bloomington Kennedy 6-2 Monday in a South Suburban Conference showdown.

In the ninth, Danielle Wolk reached base on a Bloomington Kennedy error and advanced to second on Lauren Smith's sacrifice bunt.

Then senior Megan Lehnen lined a RBI-single, scoring Wolk.  Kelsey Anderson doubled in Lehnen and sophomore Megan Threlkeld tripled in a third run.  Abby Johnson singled in the fourth and final run of the inning.

Anderson and the Blaze defense held down Kennedy in the bottom of the ninth inning for the win.

Earlier in the game, Anderson retired 15 straight batters through five innings for Burnsville.

Freshman Kelly Grove hit a triple in the top of the third and scored on Wolk's single. Grove scored again in the 5th off senior Lauren Smith's sacrifice fly to left field.

The Blaze took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. Kennedy battled back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.   Neither team could gain a baserunner in the eighth inning.

Burnsville (7-0 overall, 6-0 in conference games) hosts Lakeville South Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
