BURNSVILLE, MN — A Burnsville woman is accused of drinking and taking pills while she was caring for a six-month-old baby, who police said was found with bruises on her cheek, abdomen and arm. Megan Kay Weir, 31, has been charged with child neglect.

On May 22, just before 1 p.m., the Burnsville Police Department was dispatched to an apartment building on Evergreen Drive. Police were told that a six-month old girl was dropped off at Weir's home, and the father was to pick her up at noon.

However, Weir wouldn't pick up the phone or come to the door, the father told police.

An officer knocked on the apartment door and heard a baby crying. Eventually, Weir came to the door, topless, the criminal complaint states. The baby could be heard crying "uncontrollably," investigators said.

The child had bruising on her cheek, abdomen and arm that the parents said was not there before the baby was dropped off, police noted.

Weir admitted she had been drinking, but would not say how much, according to authorities. An officer noticed three pill bottles next to the night stand and asked Weir how many pills she had taken.

She answered, "too many," the complaint states.

Weir said she was trying to commit suicide because of a breakup.
